Lloyd Ramsey, 2 year resident of Ponca City and longtime resident of Wellington, Kansas died November 18, 2009 at Westminster Village. He was 90 years old.
Lloyd J. Ramsey was born August 16, 1919 along with his twin brother Floyd at the family farm near Geuda Springs, Kansas. Lloyd was the son of Charlie Ulman and Stella Mae (Sharpsteen) Ramsey. He attended Thompson Rural School. He graduated from eighth grade with a 98% average on the Sumner County eighth grade examination. He graduated from South Haven Rural High School in 1938 as valedictorian of his class. Following high school Lloyd attended Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina, Kansas. He attended electrical and air conditioning technical schools during his working career. He was an electrician and electrical contractor. He owned and operated Lloyd Ramsey Electric, Wellington, Kansas for over 35 years.
He married Mildred M. Helms on May 1, 1943. They have been married 66 years. They spent most of their married life living and working in Wellington, Kansas. Lloyd and Mildred have one daughter, Connie Sue Ramsey Burns.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Mildred, daughter Connie Burns and husband Darrell D., Ponca City, OK. Grandchildren, Darrell A. Burns, Arkansas City, KS, Darla A. (Burns) Schrag and husband Frank, Inman, KS, Dana A. Burns and wife Caylene, Rose Hill, KS, five great grandchildren, Amber White, Allison Schrag, Jude Cundiff, Jacob Crouse and Jenna Crouse and several nieces and nephews, sister-in-law's Norma Minerd, Derby, KS, Mary Neal, Ashton, KS, brother-in-law, Cliff Helms and spouse Iva, Derby, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Stella Mae Ramsey, twin brother Floyd, brothers George, Glenn, Ernest and Carl Ramsey. Lloyd loved learning throughout his life. He loved to read, travel, football, gardening and maintaining the family home. Lloyd was a family man always putting his family before himself. Lloyd was a member of the First Christian Church in Wellington, Kansas where he worked and held various offices and was Elder Emeritus. Lloyd served on the City of Wellington Electrical Board for many years. Lloyd volunteered with Meals on Wheels during his retirement years.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, November 20, 2009 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Lloyd's honor to the First Christian Church in Wellington, Kansas.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Wellington, Kansas with Pastor Don Bryant and Pastor Sallie Shore officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington, Kansas.
