Lucas Alfred Machado, Sr., age 83, life long Sumner County resident, passed away early Friday morning, August 15, 2008 at Golden Living Center in Wellington, KS where he had been a resident for the last several years. He retired in 1984 as a track walker after 42 years of service with the Santa Fe Railroad.
Lucas Alfred Machado was born on October 18, 1924 in Los Angeles, CA to Anaclito Machado and Romana (Pacheco) Machado.
He married Jesus Marie Sanchez on October 19, 1948 in Wellington, KS. She preceded him in death in December of 2003.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jesus Marie Machado; and two brothers, Gilberto and Gregorio Machado.
He is survived by his three sons, Ambrosis Machado and his wife Juanita of Wichita, KS, Alfred Machado, Jr. and his wife Lupe of Wichita, KS, and Frank Garcia of Wichita, KS; three daughters, Balentina White and her husband Bert of Wichita, KS, Pauline Duncan and her husband Loren of Wichita, KS, and Connie Casanova and her husband Lonnie Weimer of Denver, CO; 27 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and two great great great grandchildren.
A Vigil Service and Rosary will be held on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Father Andrew E. Heiman will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 18, 2008 from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
