Obituary

Lyman A. "Tuffy" Wilson, age 86, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and Wellington resident since 1945, passed away Saturday evening, March 8, 2008 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington, KS. He worked for REC for 30 years both as a lineman and as a line superintendent. He then went to work as an electrical supply salesman for Kriz-Davis. He worked there for many years before retiring in1987.

Lyman A. Wilson was born on March 3, 1922 in Gate, OK to Paul T. Wilson and Emma Fern (Mason) Wilson. He was raised on a farm in the Silverdale, KS area.

He joined the United States Marines and served during WWII from October 20, 1942 to October 13, 1945 in the Southwest Pacific.

On March 10, 1946 he married Martha Jane Bartelson at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Arkansas City, KS.

He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing, and reading. Since his retirement he owned and operated Wilson Electric where he repaired utility and contractor tools. He was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church where he served in numerous positions. He was also a life member of the VFW and a former commander in the 1950's.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Cecil "Bud" Wilson.

Survivors include his loving wife, Janie Wilson of Wellington, KS; two sons, Ray Wilson and his wife Janet of Fayetteville, AR and John Wilson and his wife Marcia of Olathe, KS; one daughter, Paula Oldridge of Wellington, KS; one brother, Robert "Bob" Wilson of Denver, CO; one sister, Wanda "Susie" Sundquist and her husband Lauren of Blackhawk, CO; sister-in-law, Letha Wilson of Newton, KS; seven grandchildren, Lynne Lawrence and her husband Kevin, Derek Wilson and his wife Kiersten, Rob Wilson, Scott Wilson, Craig Hamburg, Jeff Wilson, and Jenna Wilson; four great grandchildren, Brecken and Jace Lawrence and Katie and Annie Wilson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. Pastor Michael Wolff will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 10, 2008 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. and on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening.

A memorial has been established with Calvary Lutheran Church. Contributions can be mailed or left at the funeral home.
