Obituary

Mabel L. Varner Byers, age 85, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at Life Care Center of Andover in Andover, KS on Friday morning, June 22, 2007. She was a homemaker.

Mabel L. (Smith) Byers was born on August 3, 1921 in Nevada, MO to Henry Kerby Smith and Sylvia June (Moorehouse) Smith. She graduated from Kingman High School in 1939.

Mabel L. Smith was married to Merle "Mutt" Varner in 1942 until his death in 1954. She then married Kenneth R. Byers. He preceded her in death in 1977.

Mabel is preceded in death by her parents; one sister and one brother; her first husband Mutt Varner; her second husband, Kenneth Byers; her sons, infant Gary Lynn Byers and Kenneth Wayne Byers; and her son-in-law Carol Nuss.

Survivors include her two sons, Kerby Varner and his wife Linda of Kansas City, MO, and Dean Byers and his wife Cheryl of Wellington, KS; her two daughters, Beverly Nuss of Wellington, KS, and Patricia Deschaine and her husband Pat of Wichita, KS; 11 grandchildren, Kristin Lee, Jennifer Seevers, Kirk Nuss, Butch Nuss, Mylea Hawn, Anne Wille, Ty Deschaine, Ryan Deschaine, Josh Byers, Joe Byers, Kenny Byers; and 25 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 25, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church. Pastor Sallie Shore will officiate. Interment will take place at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Kingman, KS at 2:00 P.M.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, June 24, 2007 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with Phoenix Chapter #159 Order of Eastern Star. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
