Maria "Luz" Venegas de Corona, age 100, a longtime Wellington resident, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, November 26, 2008 at her daughters' home in Wellington.

Maria "Luz" Venegas was born on June 30, 1908 in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico to Tiburcio and Rosario (Romero) Venegas.

She married Jose Higinio Corona on October 12, 1924 in Summervilles, TX. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1981.

Luz was a mid-wife for many years and enjoyed crocheting, knitting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rosario and Tiburcio Venegas; her husband, Jose; three sons, Jose, Jr., Juan and Manuel Corona; one brother, Francisco Venegas and two sisters, Tiburcia Ramirez and Augustina Vazquez.

Survivors to honor her memory include three sons, Antonio Corona and his wife Emma of Wichita Falls, TX, Francisco Corona of El Paso, TX and Bertin Corona of Wichita Falls, TX; three daughters, Francisca Arellano and her husband Ricardo of Los Angeles, CA, Elisa Zavala and her husband Doroteo Zavala, Jr. of Wellington, KS and Maria Amezcua and her husband John of Winfield, KS; one sister, Bernarda Garcia of Wichita Falls, TX; one brother, Primotivo Venegas of Arkansas City, KS; 44 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Vigil Services will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. both at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Father Andrew E. Heiman will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 1, 2008 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. and Tuesday, December 2, 2008 from 9:00-5:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Care of Kansas. Memorials can be left at the funeral home.
