Mary Victoria "Margaret" Lammy, age 90, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 14, 2010 at Riverview Manor in Oxford, KS. Margaret was a dedicated school teacher for 44 years, 13 years in rural Sumner County and 31 years in Wellington. She retired from teaching in 1985.
Margaret was born on May 21, 1920 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to Chittick Spear Lammy and Isobel (McAllister) Lammy. Margaret moved to the United States when she was 15 months old. She grew up on a farm 7 ½ miles southeast of Wellington and was a graduate of Wellington High School with the Class of 1939. She obtained a Bachelor's Degree from Southwestern College in 1960 and a Master's Degree from Emporia State in 1971.
Margaret received many awards through the years including the Soroptomist Good Citizen award in 1988, the Distinguished Service Award through the Chamber of Commerce in 2001, and the Community Cornerstone Award in 2004.
She enjoyed her volunteer work at the Chisholm Trail Museum where she was a tireless worker for over 20 years, CASA, and at Lincoln and Kennedy Elementary schools in the 1990's.
She is preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, John George Lammy; and a five year old sister, Dora Isobel Lammy.
Survivors include cousins, Charlene McCann of Wichita, KS; Sue Lammy Tracy and her husband Mark of Argonia, KS, Earl Dean Lammy and his wife Naomi of Parsons, KS, Linda Stewart and her husband Rick of Neodesha, KS, Larry Daugherty and his wife Sandy of Russell, KS; and several other cousins, Randy Tracy and family, Amy Baumgartner and family, Sherry Stewart and family and Ricky Stewart and family.
Funeral Services will be held at Frank Funeral Home on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. Reverend Gail Fisher will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, October 17, 2010 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M.
A Memorial has been established with the Wellington Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
