Maxine Pauline Sipes, age 92, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away Friday Monday morning, March 21, 2008 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington, KS. She had been a life long Wellington area resident. She was a retired secretary for the Wellington Recreation Center.

Maxine Pauline (Wilkerson) Sipes was born on October 29, 1915 to Marion and Myrtle Wilkerson.

She married Samuel S. Sipes on January 19, 1940 in Wellington, KS. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1965.

Maxine was very proud of the fact that she was the last living "Harvey Girl" who worked at the Harvey House in Wellington. She was an excellent cook and very much enjoyed making cinnamon rolls and raisin bars for her grandchildren. She liked to garden and raise flowers. She was a member of the First United Methodist and the Eastern Star.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Samuel in 1965; her son, Jim; one brother, Herbert; and three sisters, Clola, Billie Jean, and her twin sister Dorthadean.

Survivors include her daughter, Sally Gerberding and her husband Doug of Wellington, KS; one sister, Hazel Miller of Clovis, New Mexico; five grandchildren, Sam Sipes, Toby Sipes, Kelly Wick, Katie Hood, and Paul Gerberding; and eight great grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, March 25, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. Reverend Brent Clayton will officiate.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, March 23, 2008 from 1:00 – 5:00 P.M. and on Monday, March 24, 2008 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 7:30 P.M. on Monday evening.

A memorial has been established with the Wellington Senior Center. Contributions can be mailed to or left at Frank Funeral Home.
