Obituary

Melvin Wayne "Arkie" Bowman, age 84, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away at Slate Creek Deseret Nursing Home, Friday afternoon, October 9, 2009. He retired after 50 years of service as a Flour Mill Supervisor for Cargill.

Melvin Wayne Bowman was born on September 4, 1925 at Lockwood, MO to David Lloyd Bowman and Lelia Louisa (Dollarhide) Bowman. He lived in Wellington most of his life and attended Wellington schools. He married Wanda Lamb on June 24, 1944. She preceded him in death on March 21, 1988.

He married Galela Cain on November 16, 1990 in Wellington, KS.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, fishing, rabbit hunting, playing pool, watching sports and KU.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Wanda; and one brother, Sam Bowman.

He is survived by his wife Gayle; son, David Bowman and his wife Toni of Wellington, KS; daughters, Linda Carroll and her husband Ron of Wellington, KS, Brenda Deschaine and her husband Terry of Fredonia, KS and Robin Davis and her husband Jeff of Wellington, KS; stepson, Leroy Burgess of Blackwell, OK; stepdaughter, Diann Holman and her husband Clint of Ponca City, OK; one sister, Betty Yowell of Santa Cruse, CA; grandchildren, Dylan, Sydney and Macy Bowman, Ryan Smith his wife Traci, Kyle Smith, Jessica Smith, Lindsey Davis, Tyler Davis, Shane Carroll and his wife Darla, Preston Carroll and his wife Mitzi, Kevin Carroll, Heather Meridith, Lisa Bretches and her companion Carl Shell, Chris Deschaine and his wife Gabrielle and Traci Ybarra and her husband Tony; step grandchildren Dustin Holman and Drew Holman of Blackwell, OK, Devin Courtney of Ponca City, Ok, and Casey and Clay Burgess of Blackwell, OK; 27 great grandchildren and one step great grandchild.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Free Will Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. Pastor Zane Brooks will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 12, 2009 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

Memorials have been established with the Wellington Little League Football and the Wellington Food Bank Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
