Merlin D. Skibbe, age 71, of rural South Haven, KS, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 31, 2012 at Via Christi Medical Center - St. Francis in Wichita, KS.
Merlin D. Skibbe was born on April 22, 1941 in Wellington, KS, he was the eldest son of Allen Harry and Helen F. (Kabureck) Skibbe.
He married Julia M. Reathaford on March 16, 1962 in Mulvane, KS. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. He retired from General Electric after 35 years of employment. He ran a milk route for 20 years and harvested for 47 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jondell Allen Skibbe; son-in-law, Steven D. Sparlin; great grandson, Justin Lee Winter; brother, Galen R. Skibbe; two nephews, Jason Todd Skibbe and Joshua Wayne Skibbe; and two nieces, Jeannie Kendall and Meagan Glen.
Survivors include his loving wife, Julia Skibbe of South Haven, KS; one son, Gaylord Skibbe of Parsons, KS; two daughters, Angela K. Brady of Salina, KS and Anita A.Sparlin of Arkansas City, KS; two sisters, Sherril Starlin and Karen Glen both of Arkansas City, KS; six grandchildren, Crystal Marshall and her husband Dion of Salina, KS, Candice Winborne and her husband Christopher of Winnsboro, LA, Tyson Brady and his wife Nichole of Salina, KS, Briley, Lindsey and Ivy Sparlin all of Arkansas, KS; seven great grandchildren, Trenton, Kaleb and Sheyanne Marshall of Salina, KS, Xander Brady, Xoie Winborne of Winnsboro, LA. and Korbin Brady of Salina, KS; and one step great grandchild, Dakotah Burris of Winnsboro, LA.
Funeral Services will be held at Frank Funeral Home in Wellington, KS on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. Pastor Pete Seidel will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington, KS. Casual attire requested.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 12:00 P.M. until service time.
