Mildred I. Prather, age 92, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 19, 2011 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita, KS. Mildred had worked as a sales clerk for Woolworth's and Glasco Drug Store before retiring in 1982.
Mildred I. (Dawson) Johnson Prather was born on December 29, 1918 in Wellington, KS to Benjamin H. Dawson and Bertha Helen (Beatty) Dawson. She was a 1937 graduate of Wellington High School.
Mildred married Charner Johnson on June 16, 1937 in Wichita. He preceded her in death in 1977. She then married C. Quenton Prather on October 18, 1980. He preceded her in death in 1999.
She is preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; son, Gaylord Johnson; brother, Alvin Dawson; and sister, Claudine Morrell.
Survivors include one son, Dennis Johnson and his wife Penny of Clearwater; one daughter, Anita Heckerman of Newton; one sister, Verna Stewart of McAlister, OK; four grandchildren, Jeremiah Johnson and his wife Heather, Lucas Johnson and his wife Jill, Amber Simmons and her husband Marty, and Autumn Adams and her husband Glen; and three great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at the First Christian Church on, Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Don Bryant will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Osborne Cemetery in Mayfield, KS.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 22, 2011 from 1:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the Christian Women's Fellowship at the First Christian Church. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
