Obituary

Neva Eleanor Ferguson, 97, longtime resident of Wellington, passed away Friday, September 30, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Wellington. Neva was a homemaker and seamstress. In years past, she worked as a clerk at Safeway Grocery, also at the IGA store in Wellington, and as a cook for the USD #353 school food services.

Neva (Furber) Ferguson was born on January 22, 1919 in Pawnee County, OK to Simeon Furber and Elsie H. (Cockrell) Furber. She was a 1936 graduate of Tonkawa High School in Tonkawa, OK.

She married Jason Allen "Pat" Ferguson on July 4, 1939 in Tulsa, OK. They were married for almost 71 years when Pat passed away in February of 2010. She was proud of the home they built in 1947 and remained in it until nearly the end of her days.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Railroad Auxiliary Lodge, and Silver Circle Quilters. Neva was a Cub Scout Den Mother for nine years. She enjoyed quilting, canning and pickling, growing vegetables and flowers in her gardens, and traveling. She and Pat had been to Europe, Hawaii and across the country. It is an understatement to say she was a gifted seamstress and tailor. She sewed for family, friends and numerous people in Wellington for many, many years, and loved teaching her granddaughters and great-granddaughters to sew and cook. She was a railroader's wife, a great cook, and loved spending time with family and friends. She never missed an opportunity to brag about her grand and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pat Ferguson; son, Gary Ferguson; his wife, Gail Ferguson; brother, E. R. Furber; sisters, Doris, Helen, and Jean; an infant sister; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Survivors include her two sons, Jeff Ferguson and his wife Georgetta (Jeffries) of Wellington; Bill Ferguson and his wife Pam of South Haven, KS; ten grandchildren, Jerri Sue Ferguson, Tim and Renee Ferguson, Kristi and Travis Whaley, all of Wellington, Steve and Janell Ferguson of Kansas City, MO, Dana Pabst of Wichita, Amy and Tommy Norris of Wellington, Angie and Ray Davis of Mayfield, KS, Rachel Ferguson, also of Wellington, Corey Ferguson of Wichita, and Kimberly and Brock Byers of South Haven, KS; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the First Christian Church. Pastor David Hansen will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

A Memorial has been established with First Christian Church. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.

Frank Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
