Nina M. (Runyan) Hay passed away at Wichita, Kansas on Thursday, September 2, 2010. She was born in Wichita on September 22, 1926 to Edwin N. and Dulcie (Larmer) Runyan. She married Sanford C. Hay on March 4, 1944. He preceded her in death on January 25, 1983.
Nina and Sanford moved to Yates Center in the spring of 1961. They owned and operated the 54 Café until 1969 when they moved back to Wichita. She was employed as the Production Supervisor for National Linen Company until her retirement in 1989.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Edwin, Max, Rusty and Randy; sisters, Faith Runyan and Phyllis Davis; and grandson, Brian Hall.
She is survived by sons, Sandy of Tulsa, OK, Nick and his wife, Vicki, of Yates Center and Terry and his wife, Dawn, of Wichita; daughter Cheryl of Hepler, Kansas; brother, Don of Robinson, Illinois; and sister, Carol Patton of Thousand Oaks, California; four granddaughters, Heather Hay Huscher and Heidi Hay Shriver of Topeka, Kansas, Caitlin Bedsworth of Mission Viejo, California, Hannah Hay of Wichita, KS; grandson, Sean Jones of Wichita; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Nina was known for her baking and cooking talents. She made delicious pies and breads, along with good home cooking. Feeding a group was always a pleasure for Nina. The recipes she invented and tweaked with her own style will be treasured by many generations to come.
A private family service was held on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 followed by interment at Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven, Kansas.
Memorial donations should be to a hospice facility or the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be sent to the funeral home.
