Nita Nadine Elkins, age 53, passed away early Saturday morning, November 19, 2011 at her home in rural Wellington.

Nita Nadine (Wood) Elkins was born on September 24, 1958 in Winfield, KS to Everett E. Wood, Jr. and Delma (Williams) Wood.

Nita married James G. Elkins on September 27, 1977 in Wellington, KS. They had recently celebrated 34 years of marriage.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved her animals and had a special bond with her dogs and horses.

She is preceded in death by her father, Everett E. Wood, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, James G. "Trigger" Elkins of Wellington; two sons, Nakia Elkins of Wellington and Tory Elkins (Jamie Prince) of Canton, KS; mother, Delma Wood of Wellington; one brother, Everett E. Wood III of Wellington; four sisters, Julia Stallbaumer (Roger) of Wellington, Mary Green (Mark) of Wellington, Betty Wimberly (Jim Duroy) of Newkirk, OK, and Iris Manche of Wellington; four grandchildren, Devyn Elkins, Syvanah Elkins, Blake Long, and Aaron Prince.

A celebration of Nita's life will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Wellington Senior Center.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

A memorial has been established with the Wellington Humane Society in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
