Ora Beatrice Cottle, age 91, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away early Friday morning, May 29, 2009 at Friendly Acres in Wellington, KS. She was a life long Wellington resident. She was a retired receptionist for USD #353.

Ora Beatrice (Huffman) Cottle was born on January 13, 1918 in Wellington, KS to Ancil W. Huffman and C. Alice (Henderson) Huffman. She attended schools in Wellington and was a 1936 graduate of Wellington High School.

On May 12, 1940 Ora married Albert W. Cottle in Wellington, KS. They had celebrated 61 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on April 29, 2002.

She was an 80 year member of the First Christian Church, Christian Women's Fellowship, and the Garden Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, sewing, crocheting, and painting.

Ora is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; two brothers Oscar and Roy Huffman; six sisters, Iva Dixon, Edith Dixon, Letha Adams, Velma Rayl, Marjorie Sims, and Alberdine Wilhite.

Survivors include her daughter Alberta Atkerson and her husband Jerry of Wellington, KS; one brother, Earl Huffman of Cherryvale, KS; three grandchildren, Cindy Smith and her husband Terry, Sondra Short and her husband Robert, and Mark Atkerson and his wife Karra; seven great grandchildren, Sheree Smith, and Christine, Erica, and Stephanie Short, Brent, Michael and Zachary Atkerson; and one great great grandchild Savannah Saunders all of Wellington, KS.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Christian Church at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, June 1, 2009. Pastor Don Bryant will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, May 31, 2009 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:30 – 8:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church in lieu of flowers.
