Patricia Lou Thomas, age 86, lifelong Wellington resident, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away early Wednesday morning, February 12, 2020 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita with her family at her side. She was a retired accountant and former owner of Wellington Tax and Accounting.
Patricia Lou (Whitley) Thomas was born on April 25, 1933 in Wellington, KS to Rolla Francis Whitley and Eva Catherine (Hooten) Whitley.
She enjoyed spending time with her familyand was an avid volunteer for the Wellington Community for many years. Pat was an accomplished artist, musician, and loved to cook.
Pat was instrumental in starting the Avenue of Flags in Wellington. She was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 90, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 881, Soroptimists, which later became the Women of Wellington, BPW, past President of the Wellington Senior Center, and a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Richard Dugan, Lavern Sharpsteen, and James Thomas; sisters, Mary Ellen Ruddle, Marion Vail; and brothers, Daryl and Jack Whitley.
Survivors include her four children, Michael (Marsha), Wellington, Richard (Karen) Dugan, Washington State, Cathy Dugan, Wellington, and Sherry (Jim) Lockhart, Wellington; sister, Wanda Spainhour, Wellington; brother-in-law Ron Dugan; sisters-in-laws, Roselan Roth and Rosetta Mullins and Nancy Sharpsteen-Browning. Grandchildren, Shannon (Lee) Patterson, Wellington, Maria (Rhett) Moyer, Wellington, Seth (Jennifer) Dugan, Wellington, Angie Arrieta, Hunnewell, Mitchell (Carly) Dugan, Texas, Jeff (Susie) Dugan, Washington State, Madilyn "Rese" (Peter) Knickerbocker, Washington State, Griffin Dugan, Washington State, Eric (Halie) Pierce, Wichita, Haley (Dean) Malouf, California, Arlen (Kerri) Buff, Oklahoma, Stephenie (Kris) Coleman, Wichita, Stephenie (Dustin) Dugan and Jamie Lockhart; great grandchildren, Brianna and Chance Olson, Hailee Moyer, Serenity Dugan, Bradley Wiens, Kaydence, Layne and Abygail Dugan, Rylee, Raegan, Rian, and Randee Raschke, Tara, Tinley, and Torie Patterson, Jamie Dugan, Selene Knickerbocker, Jude and Jameson Pierce, Eli, Hayden, Georgia, and Kelce Coleman, Stella and Bronson Malouf, Peighton, Ally, and Kadence Westmoreland, and Parker, Paisley and Preslie Lockhart.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 22, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. in the basement of the American Legion. This will be a come & go reception.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
A memorial has been established with theAvenue of Flags and the Wellington Humane Society in honor of Sammy and Buster P. Thomas, her beloved dogs. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
Frank Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
