Obituary

Pauline Jane Slack, age 91, passed away early Thursday morning, September 17, 2009 at Slate Creek Deseret Nursing Home in Wellington.

Pauline Jane (Sumpter) Slack was born on October 9, 1917 near Mulvane, KS to Charles Edward Sumpter and Josie J. (Seamon) Sumpter.

She married Merle Edgar Slack on February 9, 1942 in Dexter, KS. They were seldom seen apart. Merle retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 40 years of service in 1977, and they enjoyed retirement together until his death in 1990.

Pauline was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, CWF, NARVE, and UTU.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle E. Slack; two brothers, Raymond and Bill; and two sisters, Frances and Mary.

Survivors include one daughter, Margie M. Watts, son-in-law Arnold Watts; two grandsons, Scott A. Watts and Ryan E. Watts; several nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the First Christian Church. Pastor Don Bryant will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 18, 2009 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church Elevator Fund. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
