Obituary

Raul Arturo Mendia, age 59, lifelong Wellington resident, passed away September 25, 2006 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington, KS. He was formerly employed by Boeing Aircraft in the Engineering Department.

Raul Arturo Mendia was born on June 5, 1947 in Wellington, KS to Gregorio L. and Geronima (Martinez Gutierrez) Mendia. Raul attended schools in Wellington and graduated with the WHS Class of 1967. He also attended Wichita State University and Southwestern College for two years.

He served in the United States Army from June 28, 1967 until October 20, 1970. He was a Viet Nam Veteran–retired military.

Raul enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a Eucharistic Minister and was very involved with the church.

He is preceded in death by his father, Gregorio L. Mendia.

He is survived by his mother Geronima Mendia of Wellington, KS; brothers Alfonso Mendia of Wellington, KS, Erasmo Mendia of Wichita, KS, and Humberto Mendia of Chandler, AZ; sisters Aurora Mendia of Wichita, KS and Maria Mendia of Rockford, IL; Nieces and Nephews Roni Mendia, Raquel Mendia, David Mendia, Alicia Mendia, Sergio Mendia, Cristina Mendia, Flute Elvoria Saenz, Leo Saenz, Cyrus Cunningham, Loren Mendia, Shamika "Tillie" Mendia, Sean Roubibeaux, Sonja Roubibeaux; God Children Shawn Jimenez, Jesse Jimenez, Cristina Mendia, Cory Lira, John Walton, Ty Ybarra, and David Mendia.

Vigil Services will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 29, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. Father Andrew J. Seiler will officiate. Internment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and on Thursday, September 28, 2006 from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

A Memorial has been established with the Crusillo Movement of the Diocese of Wichita, KS. Contributions can be mailed or left at the funeral home.
