Obituary

Richard Lee "Dick" Goodrum, age 78, passed away at his home early Friday morning, June 24, 2022.  Dick was founder and co-owner along with his wife Rose of Emergency Fire Equipment in Mayfield, KS from 1986-2020. Dick also served as Chief of the Mayfield Fire Department for 57 years.

Richard Lee "Dick" Goodrum was born on August 19, 1943 in Wichita, KS to Vernon Edgar Goodrum and Mabel LoRee (Brown) Goodrum.  He attended schools in Wellington and graduated with the WHS Class of 1961.

Dick married Rose Irene McEachern on December 29, 1961 in Mayfield, KS.  They had celebrated 47 years of marriage before Rose passed away in March of 2009.

Dick was the founding member of the Sumner County Fire Chief's Association, longest serving Fire Chief of Sumner County Fire Chief's Association for 57 years, a member of Kansas State Association of Fire Chiefs (KSAFC), won "Fire Chief of the Year" from KSAFC in 2007 and was a member of Kansas State Firefighters Association (KSFFA).

He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, and was an avid fan of KU Basketball.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rose Goodrum; son, Rick Goodrum; and brother, Robert Goodrum.

Survivors include one son, Darin Goodrum and his wife Tracy of Wichita, KS; one daughter, Carri Miles of Wichita, KS; two sisters, Marilyn Howell and her husband Corky and Judy Moser and her husband Doug all of Wellington, KS; sister in law, Judy Goodrum, of Wellington, KS; nine grandchildren, Michael Miles and his wife, Tayler, Braden Miles and his wife, Holly, Tyler Miles and his fiancé, Makenzie, Kiley Goodrum, Christian Goodrum, Abby Goodrum, Erin Goodrum, Eric Goodrum, and Austin Goodrum; one great grandson, Sullivan Miles; and a host of other family members and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. at the Mayfield Community Building in Mayfield, KS.  Chaplain Dan Floyd will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Osborne Cemetery at Mayfield, KS.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 30, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. – 7:00 P.M.  The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the Mayfield Fire Department in lieu of flowers.  Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
