Obituary

Richard Delmont Legan, age 87, of Wellington, passed away early Monday morning, February 3, 2014 at Sumner County Care Center.

Richard was born to Amzi Quaddock Legan and Beulah Ora (Nichols) Legan on August 4, 1926 in Cicero, KS. After his father passed away in 1929 his mother married Andrew (Doc) Hartley. Richard served in the United States Army during World War II.

He married Alice Macklin on June 12, 1949. She preceded him in death in March of 1999.

Richard worked as a farm machinery mechanic at International Harvester and John Deere in Wellington until he retired. He then worked for a number of area farmers on their machinery. Richard enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion for 65 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Alice; brother, Denzel Legan, step-brothers, George Hartley, Bob Hartley; and step-sister, Pauline Nichols.

He is survived by his daughter, Cathy May and her husband Steve of Wellington and a number of nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at Frank Funeral Home on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. Chaplain Steve Ward will officiate.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established in his name with the Wellington Humane Society. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
