Richard A. "Dick" Newell, age 90, passed away at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington, KS on Sunday evening, October 26, 2008.

Richard A. Newell was born on August 10, 1918 in rural Rome, KS to Roy Andrew & Maggie (Stamm) Newell. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1936.

Richard married Charlotte "Roberta" Heasty on August 6, 1939 at the Union Chaple Church south of Mayfield, KS. They enjoyed 69 years of happiness together.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, bowling and was a member of the First Christian Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Clarence Wagner; his loving wife, Roberta; one sister, Leona Carroll and one great great granddaughter, Kiersten.

Survivors include his son, Jim Newell and his wife Donna of Wellington; his daughters, Beverly Haines of Wellington and Judith Sharon Lawrence of Branson, MO; one sister, Norma Wagner Fischer of Wichita; nine grandchildren, Doug Kinyon & his wife Cindy of Belle Plaine, Darwin Kinyon and his wife Jill of Missoula, MT, Darren Kinyon and his wife Lisa of Wichita, Denise Brown and her husband Charles of Wellington, Greg Haines of Wellington, Ginger Adams and her husband Gary of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Tim Lawrence and his wife Jennifer of Wichita, Celeste Rowland and her husband Chris of Jacksonville, FL and Tamren Hoenie and her husband Shane of Branson, MO; 24 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Christian Church. Pastor Don Bryant will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 27, 2008 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 7:00 – 8:30 P.M.
