Richard A. Rettig, age 70, passed away February 21, 2021 at his home in Wellington. He was a machinist at Welco and Tect for 40 plus years.
Richard A. Rettig was born on March 27, 1950 at St. Lukes Hospital in Wellington, KS to Ross Edward Rettig and Constance Joy (Tarrant) Rettig. He was raised in the Riverdale and Belle Plaine area. He attended school in Riverdale through 8 th grade and graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1969. He graduated from Cowley County Community College.
Richard was very active in the First United Methodist Church where over the years he served as Trustee, Chairman, and Usher. He was also very involved with the Wellington Food Bank and grew food in the Community Garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Stephen Rettig; and two sisters, Linda and Carol Rettig; and one niece, Jaunita Justice.
Survivors include his sister, Laura Rettig of Wellington; aunt, Dean Jones; niece Natasha Behner; cousins, Joni Bender, Karen Myers, Ron Tarrant, Debbie Kelly and Ed Helm; three great nieces, Shakkara, N'Kyra and Ta'Kiara Justice; and one great nephew, Derek Rettig.
Memorial Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. Pastor Isaac Chua will officiate. The service will be live streamed on the church Facebook page. When attending the service, please adhere to the current public gathering guidelines by wearing a face mask.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church and the Wellington Food Bank in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
Frank Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
