Robert (Bob) L. Dvorak, 83, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Sumner County Hospital District #1 in Caldwell, KS. He was a retired school teacher, coach and farmer.
Robert (Bob) L. Dvorak was born on July 30, 1927 in Renfrow, OK to Lawrence Theodore and Bess Caroline (Bruey) Dvorak.
Bob was a 1945 graduate of Caldwell High School. He attended Kansas University on a football scholarship before being drafted in to the U.S. Army in December of 1945. After discharge from the military he enrolled and played football at Southwestern College in Winfield, KS and graduated in 1951.
Bob began his teaching and coaching career in Burns, Kansas in 1952 and then coached football and track at Southwestern College for seven years. He then moved to South Haven to begin his farming career and returned to coaching at South Haven High School for four years. He then accepted a position as a track coach at Wellington High School where he retired in 1978 and resumed farming full-time in Sumner County.
He married Dorothy McCoy on June 10, 1951 in Hugoton, KS.
Bob is survived by his wife Dorothy of South Haven; five children, Todd and his wife, Tess, of South Haven, Kim Ward and her husband, Stan, of Perry, OK, Missy Lathers and her husband, Kevin, of South Haven, Tad and his wife, Tammy, of South Haven, and Carla McCoy of Fairview, TX; 12 grandchildren, Aaron, Zachary and his wife, Kelli and Nathan Dvorak, Dustin, Jessica and Weston Ward, Kalli and Lane Lathers, Cassie, Coltin, Cade and Cabrie Dvorak; and 1 great grandchild, Brooklyn Jane; three brothers, Marlin and his wife Veda of Raytown, MO, Don and his wife, Dorothy, and Rudolph and his wife, Beryl all of Caldwell, KS; sister-in-law Jane and her husband John of Santa Rosa, CA; brother-in-law, Forrest McCoy and his wife, Rosemary of Pine, AZ; a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Bess Dvorak.
Funeral Services will be held at the South Haven Methodist Church on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. Pastor Russell McAlister and Pastor Michael Roberts will officiate. Interment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven.
Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, March 18, 2011 from 2:00 – 8:00 P.M.
Memorials have been established with the Sumner County Hospital District #1 in Caldwell, KS, the South Haven Methodist Church, or Southwestern College/Athletic Department in lieu of flowers. Memorials can be left at the funeral home.
