Robert Martin Viramontes, age 51, passed away on September 9, 2007 in Wichita, KS. He had been employed by the BNSF Railroad as a trackman for 30 years and had retired this year due to health issues. He was a proud and dedicated railroader.
Robert Martin Viramontes was born on February 10, 1956 in Wellington, KS to Lauro A. Viramontes and Gabriela C. (Chavez) Viramontes. He attended schools in Wellington and was a WHS graduate with the Class of 1974.
Robert enjoyed salsa music, tennis, auctions, and loved to karaoke to Elvis Presley's music.
Robert was preceded in death by his father Lauro Viramontes, brother Mark Viramontes, sister Mary Christine Viramontes, nephew Rick Hilario, and brother-in-law George Torrez.
He is survived by his loving family, including Mother Gabriela Viramontes; sisters Linda Sloan and her husband Donald of Excelsior Springs, MO, Laura Torrez of Wellington, KS, Cynthia Rico and her husband Joaquin of Wellington, KS, Deborah Savala and her husband Alfred of Arkansas City, KS, and Teresa Hanna and her husband Dale of Ellinwood, KS; brothers Fred Viramontes and his wife Loretta of Wellington, KS and Tony Martinez of Wichita, KS; 17 nieces and nephews; and 17 great nieces and nephews. Robert will be greatly missed by all of them.
A Vigil Service will be held on Friday evening, September 14, 2007 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday morning, September 15, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Father Andrew J. Seiler will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
