Rodney Dean Ferguson, a resident of Wellington for most of his 73 years, passed away Monday, December 20, 2010 at Slate Creek Deseret Nursing Home. Rodney, who was born in Blackwell, OK on August 12, 1937, to George E. and Alta Ferguson, was among the first persons to receive developmental training and employment at Wellington's Futures Unlimited Inc., shortly after it opened in 1976.
He will be remembered as a gentle, loving individual who made no request of life other than to be loved in return. Rodney enjoyed western music and old-time movie stars; Roy Rogers and Gene Autry were his favorite cowboy singers, as his caregivers can readily attest. He will also be remembered for his ability to instantly recall birthdates of virtually every member of his expansive family and those of many non-members as well. Quiet as his presence was, he will be missed by all who knew him.
Among those who preceded him in death were his parents; brothers, J.A. "Pat" Ferguson and Dale Ferguson; sister, Lois Sprowls, and nephew, Gary Ferguson.
He is survived by a brother, Jack Ferguson, Fieldbrook, CA; sister-in-law, Neva Ferguson, Wellington, KS; four nephews, four nieces, seven great-nephews, seven great-nieces, and numerous great-great nephews, great-great nieces, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Frank Funeral Home. Interment will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Blackwell, OK at 11:30 A.M.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M.
