Obituary

Ronald (Ron) William Hamlin passed away on March 7, 2021 at The Glen Carr House in Derby, KS.  He was 91 years old.  He previously resided with his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Melissa Hamlin in Wichita.

Ronald was born August 16, 1929 in Winfield, KS to Walter and Pauline (Clarke) Hamlin.  He spent the majority of his young life living in Syracuse, KS.  He joined the Navy after high school, in October, 1948 until his discharge in 1952.

On November 20, 1952 in Raton, New Mexico, Ron married Bernice Bodkins, beginning many years of friendship and love.  Together they raised two sons.

Ron worked for years with the Jarvis Company, and later as the Ross (Cargill) maintenance supervisor at the Hunter Milling Company in Wellington.  Upon early medical retirement he and wife Bernice enjoyed many trips around the country, especially Las Vegas.  They both loved to deliver and pick-up cars for their son Rick and his restoration business.  Ron loved to rebuild engines and rebuilt many over his lifetime.

Ron was a member of the American Legion Tom Schwinn Post #90 for over 65 years.  He was an Honor Guard for military services for over 50 years.

Ron was one of the founders in 1983 of the Military Flags that decorate the cemetery each Memorial weekend.  Each year he had his white flat bed truck and trailer filled with cases of water, flag poles, flags, and volunteers, ready to decorate the cemetery in honor of all those that served in the military defending our freedom.

He also served on the first board of directors for Little League Football program in its infancy with Julie Caudillo.

Ron was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wellington.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice; granddaughter Sara Ann Hamlin; sister, Lois Jennings; and his parents.

Ron is survived by his brother Howard Hamlin, his sons Michael (Melissa) Hamlin, Wichita and Richard (Janet) Hamlin, Wellington.  He was a loving grandfather to Jill (Hamlin), (Jacob) Dickinson, Wellington, Scott Hamlin, (Kayla) Wichita, Patrick Hamlin, (Becky) Sebastian, Florida, Aubrey Bush (Jerrod) and Adam Spaid, (Denise) Wichita.  Candy giver and Great Grandfather to Devin and Dylan Dickinson, Dalton Hamlin, Emmett and Brynn Hamlin, Hayden and Leah Bush, and Addison and Abbigail Spaid.

Military Graveside Services will be held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 2:00 P.M.  Chaplain Jim Valentine will officiate.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from 1:00 – 7:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the Avenue of Flags in lieu of flowers.  Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
