Sanford P. Hughes, age 80, long time Wellington area resident, passed away Monday evening, December 11, 2006, at Golden Living Center in Wellington, KS where he had resided for the past month. He was a farmer, stockman, auctioneer, realtor, and owner of the Wellington Sale Barn.

Sanford P. Hughes was born on August 16, 1926 in Sumner County, KS to Addison Dewey Hughes and Edith Mae (Burkhart) Hughes. He was a Wellington High School graduate with the Class of 1944.

Sanford was a member of the First Christian Church, Wellington Masonic Lodge AF & AM, the Midian Shrine in Wichita, and the Kansas Realtors Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dewey J. Hughes.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Hughes and his wife Linda of Wellington, KS and Tyson Hughes and his wife Tina of Wellington, KS; two daughters, Christy Bridges and her husband Trent of Oklahoma and Vicki Graham of Oklahoma; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at the Wellington Sale Barn on Friday, December 15, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. Pastor Sallie Shore of the First Christian Church will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 14, 2006 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Memorials have been established in Sanford's name, in lieu of flowers, with the Wellington Public Library and the First Christian Church. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
