Santos G. "Sam" Blancarte, age 88, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away at Baylor All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday, May 23, 2008. He lived most of his life in Wellington and retired as a machine operator for the Santa Fe Railroad.
Santos G. "Sam" Blancarte was born on October 9, 1919 in Merida, Mexico to Clotilde Ochoa Garcia.
He married Narcisa "Narcie" Chavez on October 17, 1942 in Wichita, KS. She preceded him in death on November 28, 2000, after 58 years of marriage.
Sam served in the Army during WWII. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge "Ammunition Division" in Europe and served in Africa and Italy.
He assisted in helping start the Avenue of Flags and for many years he helped place the flags at the cemetery for Memorial weekend. He helped with the building of St. Rose Parish, the Annual Mexican Independence celebrations and was the bingo caller for this event. On Tuesdays, he was a caller for the weekly bingo at the VFW and volunteered every Friday at the Thrift Shop. He was a member of St. Anthony's/St. Rose Parish, the American Legion, VFW and the Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother; his wife Narcie and one brother, Gregorio Mendia.
Survivors include four daughters, Juanita "Sally" Moreno and her husband David of Wichita, KS, Mary Salazar and her husband Mario of Wichita, KS and Elizabeth Munoz and her husband Ramon of Fort Worth, TX and Patricia Crable of Arizona ; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A Vigil Service and Rosary will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. Father Andrew J. Seiler will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from 1:00 – 6:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the Wellington Senior Center. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
