Shirley Branning, age 71, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and long time Wellington resident, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Friday, August 22, 2008. She retired as co-owner of the Chisholm Trail Drive-In Theatre after 21 years and worked several years for Wal-Mart.
Shirley Bradt was born on May 2, 1937 in Caldwell, KS to Mori Bradt and Dorethea (Jarrett) Bradt.
Shirley married Darrell Branning on April 15, 1963 in Newton, KS. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2007 after 44 years of marriage.
Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, embroidery and collecting coupons.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrell and two sisters, Mary Saltkill and Ella Mae Grotta.
Survivors include four sons, Darrell Branning, Sr. of Seattle, WA, Terry Branning and his wife Pam of Wellington, KS, Kenny Branning and his wife Lori of Wellington, KS, and Ricky Branning of Midland, TX; one daughter, Diane Branning of Walton, KS; one brother, David Bradt of Lutz, FL; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church. Chaplain Ron Dow will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 from 5:00-9:00 P.M. and on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 from 9:00 A.M. – 9:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the LOGOS After School Program at the First Christian Church. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
