Obituary

Steve Ray Langford, age 60, of Wellington, KS, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018 at Milan, New Mexico.

Steve was born on July 18, 1958 in Wellington, KS to Robert L. Langford and Bonnie Mae (Ray) Langford. He grew up in Wellington where he loved riding horses and dragging home stray dogs. He played football through his proud Crusader years until he graduated from Wellington High School with the Class of 1976.

After graduation, he served four years in the United States Coast Guard where he was a gunner's mate aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Sweetbrier in Cordova, Alaska. It was there he fell in love with Alaska and the sea. He lived in Cordova for several years and was a commercial fisherman. He bought his own boat the Last Chance in 1984. He returned to the Midwest in early 1990's to be closer to his family. The final years of his life were spent trucking with his best friend and buddy, the Mighty "Boo." Their bond and adventures were un-measurable.

Steve was an amazingly talented man. He was very artistic and could make something beautiful out of what others might consider junk. His metal silhouettes have become family heirlooms. He was an avid reader, loved music, and wrote poetry. He was a very spiritual man and loved all creatures of this world.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and one nephew, Logan Guinn.

Survivors include his two sisters, Lawanna Guinn of Wellington, KS and Shawna McNamara and her husband Bill of Wellington, KS; nephew, Caleb Guinn and his wife Amy; nieces, Rhiannon Nichols and her husband Joel, Callie Snowden and her husband Austin, Shelby McNamara; great nieces, Zephyr Guinn and Hollis Nichols; and his best buddy, the Mighty "Boo."

In honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the American Legion in Wellington.

A memorial has been established with Grants Animal Care Center in Grants, NM in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
