Obituary

Velma Veleta Baker, age 95, passed away at Via Christi St. Francis Hospice Unit in Wichita, KS. on Thursday afternoon, September 10, 2009.

Velma Veleta (Heuszel) McConnell Baker was born on December 12, 1913 in Hunnewell, KS to George Albert Heuszel and Della Elzina (Flick) Heuszel.

She was married to Frank McConnell and Everett Baker. They both preceded her in death.

Velma was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, dancing, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one son, Earl McConnell; one sister, Hazel Heuszel; one granddaughter, Tammie McConnell, two great grandsons, Garrett McConnell and Brett Carlson.

Survivors include her two sons, George McConnell of South Haven, KS and Jim McConnell and his wife Sherrilyn of Columbus, KS; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven, KS.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, September 13, 2009 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
