Velma Jean (Herren) Strader Stoy, age 82, of Wellington, passed away Wednesday evening, February 21, 2018 at Wellington Health and Rehab.

Velma Jean (Herren) Strader Stoy was born on April 6, 1935 in Hallsville, MO to Berle Herren and Effie (Walker) Herren.

Velma married Robert F. Strader on March 19, 1952. He passed away in January of 1969. She then married Fred Stoy and they later divorced.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Strader; former husband, Fred Stoy; infant daughter, Jenny Lou Strader; brothers, Elwood Walker, Billy Herren, Morris Herren; sisters, Betty White, and Doris McCarthy; and step-son, Gene Stoy.

Survivors include her six children, Russell Strader (Pam), Rita Figg (Scott), Robert Strader II (Denise), Rebecca Berry-Marcom, Ronald Strader (Becky), Fred Stoy III (Maria), step-son, Brian Stoy, Sr. (Aimee) and daughter-in-law, Tracy Stoy; brother, Bobby Herren; sister, Moetta Escareno; 20 grandchildren, Eric, Lindsay, Matt, Kacie, Robin, Kristoffer Ray, Jenina, Stacie, Jason, Jillian, Jonathan, Michael, Joe, Steven, David, Travis, Sabrina, Brian Jr., Brad, and Dallas; 41 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

In honoring Velma's wishes, cremation has taken place.

The family will greet and receive friends at Frank Funeral Home, 417 N. Washington, Wellington, KS on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 1:00 – 2:30 P.M. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:30 P.M. Interment will follow the service at the Argonia Cemetery in Argonia, KS.

A memorial has been established with the Wellington Humane Society. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
