Verna May Stewart, age 93, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 at McAlester Nursing Center in McAlester, OK. Verna was a life long Wellington and Mayfield resident until 2000 when she moved to McAlester to be near her daughter.
Verna May (Dawson) Stewart was born on May 6, 1920 in Mayfield, KS to Benjamin Harrison Dawson and Bertha Helen (Beatty) Dawson.
Verna married William Edgar Stewart II on January 23, 1943 in Riverside, CA. He preceded her in death on January 6, 1975.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar; one daughter, Barbara Jean Stewart; one brother, Alvin Dawson; and two sisters, Mildred Prather and Claudine Morrell.
Survivors include her two children, E. Leon Stewart and his wife Bobbie of Wellington and Maxine Davidson and her husband Bruce of McAlester, OK; sister-in-law, Colletta Dawson of Wellington; 10 grandchildren, Felica (Dale) Arnhart of Dustin, OK, Forrest (Kristi) Kirkes, Lee (Carrie) Kirkes, Joi (Butch) Rankin all of Hartshorne, OK, Richard Davidson of Tulsa, OK, Corby (Julie) Hibbs of Wellington, Mike (Viviana) Tucker of Virginia, Titus Stewart, Shay (Cristina) Stewart, and Caleb Stewart all of Wellington; great grandchildren, BreAnn (Cory) Goshe of Hartshorne, OK, ChyAnn Vaughn of Edmond, OK, Craig (Ashton) Kirkes, Holly (Tyler) Kitchell, Austin Kirkes, Paige Kirkes, Jaegar Adams, Kaleb Adams all of Hartshore, OK, Bridgett Armhart of Destin, OK, Deric (Kylei) Hibbs, Briawna (Trevor) Bain, Abigayle Hibbs, and Chloe Hibbs all of Wellington, Madison Tucker, Tanner Stewart, and Tatum Stewart all of Wichita, Sheadyn Stewart, Loudyn Stewart, Gage Stewart, and Greyson Stewart all of Wellington; great great grandchildren, Jake Kitchell, Kaedynce Kirkes, and Corbin Goshe all of Hartshorne, OK, Corbin Hibbs, Avrei Hibbs, Ashton Hibbs, Braylen Hibbs, and Brantley Hibbs all of Wellington.
Funeral Services will be held at Frank Funeral Home on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 1:30 P.M. Pastor Dan Floyd will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Osborne Cemetery in Mayfield, KS.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the Mayfield Community Building Fund. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
