Vernon Edgar Goodrum, age 87, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away at his home in Mayfield, KS early Thursday morning, January 15, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He was a retired farmer and former co-owner of Machine Products along with his son, Robert Goodrum.
Vernon Edgar Goodrum was born on September 12, 1921 in Wellington, KS to Vernon and Maurine (Martin) Goodrum.
He was a member of the Mayfield Federated Church, VFW, American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the 81st Infantry Division.
He married LoRee Brown on July 21, 1940 in Oxford, KS.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son Robert Goodrum; and grandson Michael Steven Goodrum.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years LoRee Goodrum of Mayfield, KS; son Richard Goodrum and his wife Rose of Mayfield, KS; two daughters, Marilyn Howell and her husband Corky of Wellington, KS and Judy Moser and her husband Doug of Wellington, KS; one daughter-in-law, Judy Goodrum of Wellington, KS; 13 grandchildren, Carri Miles, Rick Goodrum, Darin Goodrum and his wife Tracy, Lori Phelps and her husband Rick, Amy Mott and her husband William, Brian Goodrum, Kirk Howell and his wife Dawn, Derek Howell and his wife Diana, Joshua Struble and his wife Angie, Christa Settle and her husband Chipper, Amy Atkins and her husband Mike, Nolan Moser and Katie Moser; 28 great grandchildren, D.J. and Derick Cline; Kiersten, Cody, Shianne, Garrett, and Grady Howell; Tomas and Diego Howell; Ashlyn and Addison Struble; Anthony, Matthew and Madelyn Atkins, Will and Caroline Mott; Courtney Goodrum; Cade and Connor Phelps; Abby, Erin, Eric, and Austin Goodrum; Michael, Braden and Tyler Miles; Kiley and Christian Goodrum.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 17 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mayfield Federated Church in Mayfield, KS. Reverend John Mikow, Pastor Don Cross and Chaplain Dan Floyd will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Osborne Cemetery in Mayfield, KS.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 16, 2009 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
