Obituary

Violet Edna Cairns, age 94, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away Wednesday morning, March 5, 2008 at Harry Hynes Hospice at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita, KS. She had been a resident of Wellington since 1954 moving here from Winfield, KS. She was a former employee of Beech Aircraft and Wellington Hospital.

Violet Edna (Smith) Cairns was born on April 28, 1913 in Park Rapids. MN to L. D. Smith and Eva (Newell) Smith.

She married Lloyd Rice Cairns on April 17, 1938 in Park Rapids, MN. He preceded her in death in 1993.

She enjoyed working in her church, playing the piano, reading, traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, and fishing and spending time at their cabin in Oklahoma.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd, one brother, Freeman Smith; two sisters, Vivian Kroll and Merle Zein; and one grandchild, Gene Lloyd Watkins.

Survivors include her two daughters, Dawn May and her husband Gerald, Sr. and Sharon Cairns-Chaddick both of Wellington, KS; three grandchildren, Gerald May, Jr. and his wife Shelly, Deborah May, and Mark May; three great grandchildren, Jeremy May, Crystal May, and Zane May.

Funeral services will be held at the First Southern Baptist Church on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. Pastors Phil Wylie and Zane Brooks will officiate. Interment will be at Union Graham Cemetery in Winfield, KS at 3:00 P.M.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon, March 6, 2008 from 2:00 – 9:00 P.M. The casket will remain closed.

A memorial has been established with First Southern Baptist Church. Contributions can be mailed or left at the funeral home.
