Obituary

Virgil Edward Lowder, age 83, life long Wellington resident, passed away Monday morning, November 29, 2010 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. He had worked as a paint contractor for over 60 years.

Virgil Edward Lowder was born on October 18, 1927 in Wellington, KS to Glen Freeman and Ruby Thelma (Porter) Lowder. He was a graduate of Wellington High School with the Class of 1945. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He married Betty Jean Browning on November 25, 1946 in Winfield, KS.

He was an avid fisherman and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Arnott Lowder; and one sister, Marilynn Lindberg.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Betty of Wellington, KS; three daughters, Susie Stover of Wellington, KS, Cindy Green and her husband Denny of Wellington, KS, and Carolyn Gallemore and her husband David of St. Louis, MO; sisters, Pansy Hanson of Jarrell, TX and Virginia Prothro of Temple, TX; six grandchildren, Cristin (Jay) Peetoom of Argonia, KS, Eric (Rachel) Lansden of Wellington, KS, Dave (Christie) Gaddie of Argonia, KS, Jason (Lisa) Gaddie of Wellington, KS, Ryan (Kelli) Gallemore of St. Louis, MO, and Scottie (Ben) Eastman of St. Louis, MO; 17 great grandchildren, Toni Peetoom, Davi Peetoom, Devon Peetoom, Jaci Peetoom, Ben Peetoom, Hunter Gaddie, Faith Gaddie, Marlee Gaddie, Peyton Lansden, Evan Lansden, Stephanie Moore, Jackson Gallemore, Sam Gallemore, Henry Gallemore, Max Eastman, Kingsley Eastman, and Mason Eastman; and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Freewill Baptist Church at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 2, 2010. Pastor Zane Brooks will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established in his name with the American Diabetes Association. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
