Virginia Lee "Ginny" Mortimer, age 79, passed away Wednesday morning, December 28, 2022 at the Caldwell Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Caldwell, KS.

Virginia Lee (Barry) Mortimer was born on May 13, 1943 in rural Sumner County, KS to Velmar "Doc" Barry and Lucerne Marie (Ehlers) Barry.  She graduated from Wellington High School in 1961.

She married Jerry Dean Mortimer on December 31, 1964 at the Mayfield Federated Church in Mayfield, KS.

Ginny was a wife, mother, caregiver, nanny, and cashier at Mayfield Grocery.  Family and community gatherings were an opportunity for her to give of her time and talents.  Ball games and rodeo were one of her recent favorites to do with her adopted grandchildren, Skyler, Tori, Brayden, and Colton.  Shopping was at the top her daily list of things to do.  She never knew a stranger and was willing to share her life with all.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jerry in 2012; nieces, Julie (Hutchinson) Jenkins and Joni (Hutchinson) Ford; and brother-in-law, Gary Hutchinson.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Mortimer of Mayfield, KS; sister, Marlene Hines of Dalton, KS; brother-in-law, Jr. and Sharon Mortimer of Wichita, KS; sister-in-law, Virginia and Rick Schon of Haysville, KS; numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Graveside Services will be held at the Osborne Cemetery in Mayfield, KS on Monday, January 2, 2023 at 11:00 A.M.  Chaplain Dan Floyd will officiate.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 1, 2023 from 1:00 – 7:00 P.M.

Memorials have been established with the Sumner County Fire District #8 Mayfield or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice of Wichita, KS.  Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
