Wayne L. Harris, age 86, lifelong resident of Sumner County, KS, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Wellington, KS. He was a retired farmer.
Wayne L. Harris was born on September 30, 1928 in Arkansas City, KS to Arkle William Harris and Anna Belle (Overholt) Harris. He was a graduate of Oxford High School. He also attended Kansas State University and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Wayne married Wanda Louise Bursack on August 29, 1953.
Wayne served on the Oxford School Board, was a member of the Kansas Wheat Growers Association; and served as a deacon and elder at the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arlyss, Harold, and Earl Harris; and one sister, Laverne Berry.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Wanda Harris of Wellington; four sons, Rex Harris and his wife Jeanne of Geuda Springs, Jeff Harris and his wife
Debby of Edmond, OK, Keith Harris of South Haven, and Steve Harris and his wife Callie of Knoxville, TN; seven grandchildren, Audra Morris, Ryan Harris, Alexandra Harris, Anna Harris, Kathryn Robinson, Kristin Harris, and Daniel Harris; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at the Wellington Church of Christ on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. Mr. Michael Nelson will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Forest Hill Cemetery near Ashton, KS.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the Church of Christ. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
