Wesley Lou Mahannah was born December 18, 1930 to Floyd and Veda (Raine) Mahannah in Dixon Township (near Milan), Kansas. He died on Thursday, October 10, 2013 in Denton, Texas. Wesley was raised primarily in the Wellington, Kansas area, attending both grade schools and graduating from High School in 1949. Wesley entered the U.S. Navy (during the Korean War) in 1950 and became an Airman Machinist and achieved the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer. He was honorable discharged in 1954. Wesley married Ida Bonita Crittenden on June 1, 1951. He is the father of four children, Wesley Lou II (who died as an infant), Morna Joy Trowbridge, Jana Lyn Mahannah, and Kevin Lee Mahannah. Wesley later attended and graduated from Wichita State University with a BA in Political Science and American History. He later attended the Law School of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is a member of the First Baptist Church, Wellington, Kansas, and a member of the Guthrie, Oklahoma Scottish Rite and Tonkawa, Oklahoma Masonic Lodge. He is also a member of the American Legion in Denton, Texas.
Wesley is survived by his wife, Ida Bonita (Crittenden) Mahannah, of 62+ years of marriage, daughter Morna Trowbridge of Irving, Texas, daughter Jana Mahannah and husband Dave VonTesmar of Manvel, Texas, and son Kevin Mahannah and wife Kelly Mahannah of Denton, Texas, and three grandchildren, Nathan Stone Trowbridge, John Wesley (Jack) Mahannah, and Kacey Leigh Mahannah. Wesley retired in 1998 after working as a Director of Financial Education at the San Antonio College of Medical and Dental Assistants in McAllen, Texas, to their ranch in Yancey, Texas, which they later sold and moved to Denton, Texas, where he resided the past 12 years. Wesley was also preceded in death by his oldest brother, Elden and both his father, Floyd Mahannah, and mother, Veda Peterson. He is survived by his loving family and many friends and relatives.
Funeral Services will be held at the Frank Funeral Home in Wellington, KS on Monday, October 14, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor John Bliss will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, October 13, 2013 from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.
Memorials have been established with the First Baptist Church and the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the Frank Funeral Home, 417 N. Washington, Wellington, KS.
