Wilbur Wade Smith, Sr, age 90, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and Wellington resident since 1950, passed away Monday morning, April 30, 2018 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, KS. He worked for Lamar for 21 years as an aircraft mechanic. He also worked many years as a dairy manager for Zech's Dairy.

Wilbur was born on April 29, 1928 in Lantry, SD to Frank Alfred Smith and Mabel (Schultz) Smith.

He served in the United States Army during WWII from May 3, 1946 to October 29, 1947.

On August 18, 1945 he married Hazel C. Potts in Columbus, KS. She preceded him in death on January 14, 1999.

He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed cooking and playing bingo. He was a life member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel; two daughters, Barbara Perrin and Pat Pruitt; six brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include one son, Wilbur W. Smith, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Wellington; two daughters, Wanda Cathey and her husband John of Texas and Lynda Redd and her husband Alan of Oklahoma; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Christian Church on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Sallie Shore will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M

A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be mailed or left at the funeral home.
