Winona Marcel Martin, age 84, loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and lifelong Sumner County and Wellington resident, passed away at her home on December 8, 2006. She was a homemaker and retired school teacher.
Winona Marcel Martin was born on December 22, 1921 in rural South Haven, KS to Harry E. Troutman and Edris Ruth (Gardner) Troutman. She was raised in rural South Haven and was a graduate of South Haven High School. She also received a teaching certificate from Cowley County Community College. She had taught school many years ago in Geuda Springs and Corbin, KS.
On July 31, 1943 she married Donald Ray Martin in Laredo, TX. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2001.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and a former member of the Chisholm Trail Camping Club. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, and the family genealogy.
Winona is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ray; and three brothers Lawrence, Glen, and Arlis Troutman.
Survivors include her four sons, Larry Martin of Wellington, KS; Dennis Martin and his wife Susan of Caldwell, KS, Tony Martin and his wife Angela of Wellington, KS, and Tim Martin and his wife Paula of Wellington, KS; seven grandchildren, Erica Dowden, Lee Martin, Matthew Martin, Travis Martin, Amber Roper, Emily Martin, and Molly Martin; six great grandchildren, Spencer Martin, Colby Martin, Brittany Walker, Paige Martin, Tyler Dowden, and Aevrie Martin.
Funeral Services will be held at the First Christian Church on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Sallie Shore officiating. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens in Wellington.
Memorials have been established in her name with the First Christian Church and the American Heart Association. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 11, 2006 from 5:00 – 9:00 P.M. and on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M.
